According to the report, at least 24 people were killed and 47 others wounded while protesting against Myanmar's military government after a motorized paraglider dropped two bombs on the crowd, according to the BBC.
The report also stated that the attack occurred on Monday evening as about 100 civilians gathered in Chaung U township, Sagaing region, to mark a national holiday and voice opposition to the ruling military junta. The Sagaing region has been a major battleground since the 2021 coup, which ousted Aung San Suu Kyi’s elected government and triggered a nationwide armed resistance.
The report also said that an official in the local PDF told BBC Burmese that they had received information about a potential airborne attack during Monday's gathering. They tried to end the protest quickly, but the participants reached the scene earlier than expected, he said.
The incident was so fast that the people around were not prepared. Seven minutes after the clearing announcement was made, the bomb exploded in the crowd.
In addition to the report, Joe Freeman, Amnesty International's Myanmar researcher, said the attack "should serve as a gruesome wake-up call that civilians in Myanmar need urgent protection".
