The report said that Donald Trump has raised the tariffs on Chinese imports to 245%. China has hit back at the move, demanding "mutual respect" from the Americans. Chinese state media has also joined in, asking the US to "stop whining" and begin talks. What message does Trump's latest round of tariffs send? Palki Sharma tells you.
That's all great, but when I see what many things cost straight out of China, the net prices, then paying a tariff of 245% still leaves most things competitive. Sure, the importers and distributors won't like that they can no longer keep the exorbitant profit for themselves, so they turn down the profit, just like it were a domestically produced product. The 245 % tariff is insanely high. President Trump likes to bully China.
