The Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) confirmed the arrest of Maria Chibego, the victim’s stepmother, and Chakupiwa Kamupira, her biological father, in connection with the death of Rumbidzai Kamupira on 14 July 2025.


In a statement posted on X, the police said the victim was assaulted with open hands and a switch by Maria Chibego after she failed to sleep at home on 13 July. Chakupiwa Kamupira joined in the assault, also using a switch.

I am strongly against flogging any child as discipline. It can easily lead to bodily injuries and death as in this case.

May be once they enter teenage we should stop beating them instead we should try to discipline them by talking to them.

Yeah I know some children can be very annoying but we need to apply caution when we try to discipline them.

Flogging of a child is proper way of training a child but must be done with love and moderation. Though the girl in question is no more a child therefore use of cane or beating is absolutely wrong.
