AFCON 2025 Round Of 16 -Senegal Beats Sudan 3-1
In an exciting AFCON 2025 Round of 16 match, Senegal secured a 3-1 victory over Sudan on Saturday January 3, 2026. The game started with Sudan taking an early lead when Aamir Abdallah scored in the 6th minute.
Senegal fought back with Pape Gueye equalizing in the 29th minute, followed by another goal from Pape Gueye in stoppage time of the first half (45+2) to make it 2-1. The decisive third goal came from substitute Ibrahim Mbaye in the 77th minute, sealing the win 3-1.

Senegal’s performance against Sudan in the Round of 16 was a perfect example of resilience and determination. Even though Sudan shocked everyone with an early goal in the 6th minute, Senegal refused to panic and instead built their way back into the game. Pape Gueye was the standout player, not only equalizing but also giving his team the lead right before halftime, which completely shifted the momentum. What impressed me most was how Senegal maintained control in the second half, showing maturity and patience until Ibrahim Mbaye sealed the victory with the third goal. For me, this match proves why Senegal is considered one of the strongest teams in Africa—they have depth, discipline, and the ability to respond under pressure. Sudan fought hard, but Senegal’s quality was too much. This win sets the tone for their journey in AFCON 2025, and they look ready for bigger challenges ahead.

Senegal performance against Sudan was a great one. But Sudan shocked me in that match.

Senegal is one of the best contenders of this AFCON competition. Senegal football is improving and a lot of Senegalese are into European clubs and are doing well. Sudan is still underdogs and need more experienced players to make impactful moves!
