Fahima Noori had immense hopes after she graduated from Afghanistan's university. She had studied law, completed a midwifery programme, and even worked at a mental health center. However, when the Taliban took control in 2021, they prohibited girls above the age of 12 from receiving an education, limited women's employment opportunities, and recently removed publications written by women from universities.

For Fahima, the internet was her last lifeline to the outside world. "I recently enrolled in an online university and had hoped to finish studies and find an online job," she said.

However, on Tuesday, the Taliban ordered a nationwide internet blackout for an undetermined period. "Our final hope was to learn online. "That dream has now been destroyed," Fahima remarked.
