According to the report, the Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) on Wednesday said it supports any initiative that would enhance its defensive capabilities and interoperability as it proceeds with its modernization program.

AFP spokesperson Col. Francel Margareth Padilla told reporters that the AFP initiatives that enhance our defense capability, interoperability, and readiness in accordance with existing agreements and Philippine laws.

The report also stated that this comes in the wake of the February 16 Philippines-United States Bilateral Strategic dialogue, where both sides underscored their unwavering commitment to uphold a free, open, prosperous, and secure Indo-Pacific.

The report said that aside from this, the two countries also reaffirmed their commitment to the 1951 Mutual Defense Treaty.

The report added that during the strategic dialogue, Washington, D.C. also pledged to "continue and work to increase deployments of US cutting-edge and unmanned systems to the Philippines" and "expand and modernize the country's civilian and military cyber defense capabilities and ability to detect and disrupt cyber threats.

In addition, Padilla said that any deployment of allied systems is intended to strengthen training, improve domain awareness, and support our collective defense posture. These efforts contribute to our mission of protecting Philippine sovereignty, securing our national territory, and maintaining peace and stability in the region.
