I think it mostly depends on how well you take care of your computer, would determine how long it would last.
Provided that you take a great care for your phone, it could take a very long time serving you very ultimately for that matter
I would peg my own at four years for a very solid PC before I start seeing it as outdated. It isn't always specified.

Technological advancements are so quick and with a blink of eye, you have something new launched. So, yes our computers and gadgets get outdated very quickly. But do we need to keep purchasing a new gadget every now and then?...is the question. Is it budget friendly?
I take good care of my gadgets. My laptop is almost ten years old and I don't need to buy a new one in any near future. I got a few things updated in the same one. It's running well and serving my purpose. So, it might be outdated as per the market, but for me it's pretty good and functional. It might run for another few years
