Anthropic, a major American artificial intelligence company known for developing the Claude chatbot, has agreed to pay at least $1.5 billion in a settlement with a group of authors. The agreement follows a class action lawsuit initiated by writers Andrea Bartz, Charles Graeber, and Kirk Wallace Johnson, who accused Anthropic of using their books without permission to train its AI system, Claude, which competes with ChatGPT.

This settlement sets an important precedent in the relationship between AI and copyright. I think it's logical for writers to sue if their work was used without permission. At the same time, it shows how quickly these legal disputes with Big Tech companies are moving. I think we'll see many more similar cases in the coming years.
