According to the report, on October 5, 2022, the campus of the University of Arizona in Tucson went into lockdown after beloved department head Dr. Thomas Meixner was shot and killed inside the Harshbarger Building, later telling his attacker, “I knew you were going to do this.”
The report said that the police identified the suspect as 46-year-old graduate student Murad Dervish, who had been expelled, banned from campus, and previously accused of threatening staff, and arrested him more than 100 miles away with a 9mm handgun and matching ammunition in his car.
The report added that in May 2024, a jury found Dervish guilty of first-degree murder and multiple other felonies, and he was sentenced to life in prison without parole.
