Sometimes friends can be of good help but they can also get swayed by emotions rather than look at things objectively. Since they care about you, they may sugarcoat their feedback and not point out weaknesses they see in the idea. Getting perspectives from more detached sources is important to get a well-rounded view. Business is business at the end of the day, not personal. So while friends' support is appreciated, one needs input from those who don't have the personal connection and are willing to give an honest assessment, good or bad, to improve the chances of the idea working in the market.
