According to local authorities in Bangkok, Thailand, approximately 200 schools had to close on Thursday because of severe air pollution. The authorities strongly advised residents to work from home and implemented restrictions on using heavy vehicles within the city. Seasonal air pollution has been a persistent issue in Southeast Asia, affecting many countries. As reported by IQAir, Bangkok was ranked as the sixth most polluted major city globally. The concentration of PM2.5 pollutants, cancer-causing microparticles small enough to enter the bloodstream via the lungs, reached an alarming level of 122 micrograms per cubic meter. The WHO recommends that the 24-hour average exposure to PM2.5 should not exceed 15 micrograms on the majority days of the year.
