Benue state attacks

Benue State in Nigeria has been plagued by a series of violent attacks, primarily between nomadic Fulani herders and local farming communities. The latest attacks, which occurred in February 2026, have left at least 30 people dead and several others injured in Anwase and Mbaikyor communities.
The attacks are part of a larger conflict over land and resources, exacerbated by climate change, population growth, and ethnic tensions. The region has seen a surge in violence, with over 510,000 people displaced and living in squalid camps without access to basic necessities like food, water, and healthcare.

*Recent Attacks:*

- _February 7, 2026_: Armed bandits killed at least 13 traders in Anwase, Kwande area, and 17 people in Mbaikyor.
- _June 2025_: Gunmen raided Yelewata community, killing over 100 people and displacing thousands.
- _April 2025_: 56 people were killed
