In my opinion, stocks has a broader meaning than shares. Stock refers to owning shares of two or more companies, for example, you own shares of various companies like AAPL, NVDA, AMXN, etc. But the term shares is often used for a single company unit, for example, if you only own 50 shares of MSFT. Of course, the term stocks would be better because it shows you are wealthier.
