Can a business that has an absentee business owner ever work?

My friend works in another city and wants to set up his business in his hometown. He wants to run the business from the city that he works in. Do you think that a physical offline business can work when the business owner is always majorly not around?

It mainly depends on the business, back then where i used to work, my boss was mostly absent but business was still moving smoothly, this is because he has arranged everything for us and we all know our roles.

A business that has solid structure would be able to run without the presence of the business owner. Businesses should focus on building structures.

It depends on the management he put in place! If he have properly arranged everything, the business can go smoothly. There are businesses that are been run smoothly in the absence of their owners.

If a business that has an absentee owner can't run, that means if the owner gets sick or dead, the business would automatically die. That's not a well built business.
