Can sequels ever be as good as the original?

Most movies today tend to have sequels, and most of these sequels is simply due to the fact that the first part was a huge hit, so fans are asking for a sequel, or the producers just want to make more money. One thing i have noticed about most sequels is that majority of them aren't always a good as the first one. Have you watched a sequel that was better than the original?
