Can you ask a close family person for debts owed?

When it comes to family members, we have to be very careful of how we deal with them in financial matters. So many family members lend money from a fellow family member, and when it comes to paying back, it becomes a dirty fight. That's why some people , including yours truly can't ask close family members of debts owed.

One thing I do is that define any funds that I lend out to family members. I always ask them for my debts.

I seldom discuss financial matters with family members. If they request me to lend money to them, I'll consider the situation and help if possible. But I will have an agreement with them on repayment schedule.
