I am trying to update an app installed on my smartphone, yet the update is not getting downloaded. What could be the reason for this problem, how to find where the download has gone and how to fix it ?

I have experienced this as well several times. I think the issue is from the app it self you need to send a complaint to them.
It may just be that you don't have enough space on your device to download the update. That's the most likely explanation.

I have encountered the same situation before. The app was no longer compatible with my phone’s software, so I had to delete it.
When I experience this, it is always because the update cant run on my phone. You either let the old version run or look for an alternative.
