According to the report, China has accused the United States of being the true origin of the COVID-19 pandemic, escalating a renewed war of words over the virus’s origins. In a government white paper released on April 30, Beijing claimed “substantial evidence” suggests COVID-19 may have emerged in the U.S. before the outbreak in Wuhan, and accused Washington of “shamelessly politicising” the search for the virus’s origins. Chinese officials called for a new phase of global investigations to focus on early U.S. cases, urging the U.S. to stop “pretending to be deaf and dumb”.
