Now hear this story, folks. A new study is out and it says coffee isn’t just for waking you up in the morning – it can also give you a boost of youthfulness. Scientists have found that if you drink three to four cups a day, your telomeres (those indicators of aging cells) stay longer. In simple terms, it’s like you’re getting a bonus of five years of biological youth.

But now when you overdo it, things get worse. If you go above five cups a day, those benefits are completely lost. This is in line with what major health organizations like the NHS and the FDA are advising – coffee is cool but there should be a limit.

Telomeres tend to shrink as a person ages, and for people with mental health issues like schizophrenia or mood disorders, the process is faster. That’s why scientists investigated whether coffee can slow down that aging. They took 436 people in Norway, and divided them into groups based on the amount of coffee they drank.

The results produced a “J-shaped” curve: those with 3–4 cups had longer telomeres, but those with 5+ cups showed no improvement. Most of them were also smokers, something known to disrupt the body’s caffeine balance.

So the lesson is this: coffee is a bit of a life hack, but you have to know how much. Three or four cups a day – fresh. If you exceed that, you miss out on that youthful bonus.

The very reason that coffee provides some revitalization is enough reason to want to believe this study.
