Usually a wifi dongle has to be connected to the USB port of a desktop for wifi connectivity, while laptops and android devices have inbuilt wifi. Is there any reason why the inbuilt wifi is more stable than using a wifi dongle?

Built-in WiFi on a laptop or phone is often more robust than using a dongle because its chips are directly connected to the motherboard and have antennas placed in better positions. Dongles are often small and their antennas are not as strong, so the signal is weak and the speed drops. Also, inbuilt WiFi uses fast communication channels like PCIe while dongles rely on USB which can share bandwidth with other devices. It's a saying that a fish in the water is still raw.

WiFi built into laptops or phones often outperforms dongles because the hardware, drivers, and antennas are designed together. Dongles can be finicky if the port is weak, the dongle itself is low quality, or there’s interference. Internal WiFi benefits from power management and system integration, making it more consistent and less likely to drop mid connection
