According to the report, Israel’s David’s Sling air and missile defense system proved its mettle in recent live-fire trials, marking a key step in the system’s operational refinement.
The report stated that the tests, led by the Israel Missile Defense Organization with support from the US Missile Defense Agency and RAFAEL, showed David’s Sling interceptors launching from a sea-based platform. It said that it successfully engaged multiple unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs), underscoring its effectiveness against highly maneuverable targets.
The report also stated that trials represented a key milestone in David’s Sling’s ongoing upgrades, building on its wartime performance, during which interceptions helped limit casualties.
Yoav Tourgeman, chief executive officer of RAFAEL Advanced Defense Systems, said that against the backdrop of ever-evolving threats, RAFAEL is proud to successfully conclude the advanced test series of the David’s Sling system. The system undergoes continuous upgrades and adaptations, and the current test series once again demonstrates that David’s Sling is one of the world’s leading air defense systems.
The report said that David’s Sling is a medium-to-long-range missile system capable of engaging rockets, ballistic missiles, cruise missiles, aircraft, and UAVs. It serves as a key layer in Israel’s multi-tiered air and missile defense network, complementing the Arrow, Iron Dome, and Iron Beam systems.
The report added that David’s Sling is built for modular integration; the system can be slotted into operational defense networks and adapted to a wide range of engagement scenarios.
Additionally, it reportedly requires minimal sensor input to sustain a steady rate of fire even during saturation attacks, and its architecture is designed to support future command-and-control systems.
