If a gangster or extortionist who you have never interacted with keeps making phone calls, should a person block the number, take the phone calls or report them? What could be the reason why the gangster is making phone calls repeatedly?

If it were me, I definitely wouldn’t pick up the calls. When you answer, you’re giving them a chance to engage, pressure, or even trick you into saying something they can use against you. Blocking the number is a quick step, but usually these types of people have multiple lines, so it might not stop the harassment completely. That’s why reporting is the smartest move. Even if the authorities don’t act immediately, at least there’s a record of the calls, which could be useful later if things escalate. As for why they’re calling, it could be random—sometimes scammers or extortionists dial numbers hoping to intimidate someone who will give in out of fear. Other times, they might have mistaken identity and think you’re someone else. Either way, ignoring and documenting is safer than engaging. Fear is their main weapon, so the less attention you give them directly, the better.

Of course, they (the extortionists) have a reason for bothering you. Perhaps you have debts, your phone number has been shared on social media, or you're the type of person who's easily blackmailed or deceived. It's best to block the extortionist's phone number.

I do not have debts, though some very powerful people, college classmates have cheated, exploited, robbed me after faking friendship, though they never contacted me.
How do they rob you? Whether by asking for your bank account PIN or simply scamming you? Don't give out sensitive data like passwords to anyone. If you just give them your phone number and ignore them, you'll be safe.
