Denmark has banned all civilian drone flights this week ahead of a European Union conference in Copenhagen, the country's transport minister announced on Sunday. The ministry stated that the decision was taken to "simplify security work" for the police, and that they could not accept "foreign drones creating uncertainty and disruption". Denmark is one of several European countries that have reported "drone incidents" in recent weeks, with unidentifiable drones spotted above Danish military locations as recently as Saturday.

Denmark's measure reflects growing security concerns surrounding major international events. Banning civilian drone flights before the European Union conference appears to be a preemptive decision to avoid any incidents that could compromise the safety of attendees or nearby military installations. Authorities understandably want to minimize risks, especially when it comes to unidentified drones that could be used for surveillance or interference.
Although the ban may be inconvenient for hobbyists and commercial drone operators, it also highlights the need for clearer and stricter regulations on drone use in sensitive areas. These types of restrictions will likely become more common as drone technology continues to advance and become more accessible. Furthermore, the measure may serve as an example for other European countries that have also reported sightings of suspicious drones near critical facilities, encouraging more rigorous security policies.
