Destroying competition to increase market share

Earlier website owners would purchase backlinks to increase traffic, now google has almost completely destroyed link selling , so most of the link sellers are making losses or have closed. Do you know of any other similar case?

Well people in business are generally selfish so they go to any length to close the sale's gap against the next person

Don't know of cases like this though, but i do know it has now become a common thing for most companies to try destroy the reputation of their competition .
