I directly employed this guy to work for the same organization that I work for since I am the Departmental head. Few months along the line, he fell out with the company and left. It was a fierce departure. One that my company are still suffering for till today.

My friend has a need for someone with his skillset. I have referred him to that my friend. Likely, he would be employed there.

Did I do any wrong referring him to my friend when my company is yet to fill the void left by his departure?

Hi Trush, I understand how difficult it can be when an employee leaves abruptly and leaves a lasting impact on the organization. Sometimes, even when the relationship ends badly, we can still recognize the value they brought to the company during their time there. It's great that you considered referring your friend, as that could give him a second chance and perhaps a better opportunity to showcase his talent elsewhere. However, I also recommend that if you decide to support him, you make sure he's in a better position and more motivated to prevent a repeat of the same situation. The recommendation can be very valuable, but it's also important to trust that this new opportunity will be different. I hope everything works out for him this time and that you can see your support was worthwhile.

Was the fallout his fault? If yes then it's very likely he might have issues wherever you referred him to, but then again you simply referred, it's left for the company to hire or not.

You were wrong to refer someone who left when your work place needed him the most. One thing most organizations value is patience and resilience, if your refered lacks these virtues that automatically mean that you failed in your referral. That is why companies ask questions like "why did you leave your former place of work"? If he left for the wrong reason he can never be preferred for failure of repeating the same.
