Did you successfully managed monetization on your blog website?

I have a friend of mine who did everything that is required on the developing of a website. Like he posted compelling and quality content, he did a very great job in the keywords optimization and the website was highly ranked on the search engines but still couldn't earn anything reasonable out the hardwood applied. He was then very frustrated and quit.
What is your take on that? Is the blogging not for everyone?

I have half a dozen websites and these websites are monetized through different ad networks including adsense.

I have 29 websites, but adsense didn't monetize any one of those. I am using these for affiliate marketing. The main thing remain in success through website is traffic on website. It is increasing day by day but yet didn't reached on required level.

I have previous experience with monetizing my website. It was a time-consuming process but worthwhile. I had to consistently produce relevant content, engage in blog exchanges, etc.

Nowadays l have realized that we only have a very small number of webmasters that are really earning good out of the blogging venture.
