Do you have specific customers for your business?

For me l have seen that there are some businesses that serve some specific customers on their databases. They would not sell to anyone unless they are registered and being introduced to the system's business. For instance the pay TV services among services. What do you think about these kind of businesses?

I have a feeling that the most open businesses for the public to patronize and whereby everyone is willing to buy from them it's destined to make higher profits than the others.
