Do you think character count/word count is necessary to reduce forum spam?

Generally, there are some forums that impose character count or word count to prevent users of the site from spamming the site. Do you think it really helps to prevent spam posts on the forum if there is word count or character count?

What this policy stops id mainly the posting of unduly short posts. Word count or character count limitations ensure that a poster submits a long post that is easily understandable.

Definitely it is neccesary. At least in paid to post forums. You can't be paid for short sentences like Thanks or Have a nice day!

I build my anti spam system. Visitor must visit another website and rewrite like first or last word, recognize color or something simple.

There is no guarantee that a user won't spam even if he/she post as per the word count. One needs to check the posts to avoid spamming in the forums.

If you increase character count, you can stop spam in some way, as this will stop one liner post. However, just because you have set higher word count limit it does not necessarily stop spam
