The answer is yes; it is plausible that some sellers engage in price manipulation tactics to maximize profits or gain a competitive advantage. Price manipulation can take various forms, such as artificially inflating prices through false advertising or creating artificial scarcity. Some sellers may engage in price-fixing agreements with competitors to set prices at a higher level than market conditions would dictate.

Also, dynamic pricing algorithms, while often beneficial, can also be used to manipulate prices based on factors like demand, location, or customer browsing history. Sellers may also use psychological pricing strategies, such as ending prices in ‘.99’ to create the illusion of a lower price. I was once a victim of this tactic. I was thinking the price of the dress I liked to buy was P880 pesos, only to know that the actual price was 3, 880 pesos.

Moreover, price manipulation tactics can harm consumers by leading them to pay more than they should for goods or services. Regulatory bodies often monitor markets to detect and prevent price manipulation practices, but enforcement can be challenging; no one has ever caught, no evidence to declare. Transparency in pricing practices and consumer awareness are crucial for combating rice manipulation and promoting fair market competition.

I also observed it here. Before buying, I am making a price comparison. I list down the price, for example, the price of an apple from Store A up to Store D. I found out that these four stores have different prices of apple. So they manipulate the prices of their goods.

The problem of high prices won't be solved because the sellers themselves have their conspiracy to raise the prices of their goods. The concern government agency should investigate to stop their malicious practice.
