One more significant thing that altcoins have done is that their teams and creators promote their coins and tokens which in return makes people investing in their projects turn back to Bitcoin eventually because once they get in the industry, they start looking here and there and doing their research, and their final destination becomes Bitcoin. The altcoins however allows the adoption of the bitcoins in some way.

I don't think they're a distraction, maybe many of them are, but in a market as profitable as the crypto market a lot of people are going to want their piece of the pie, so I don't think altcoins are in themselves a distraction, at least not all of them or didn't start with that.

Even though many famous people promote or tweet about memecoins, the influence of altcoins will depend on the investors themselves, although personally they say altcoins are not a distraction to the bitcoin adoption, because in my investment portfolio when I buy altcoins it doesn't reduce the amount of Bitcoin I have.
