Do your forum merge posts if a user comments again after he had the last comment?

There are some forums that merge the posts of users if another user doesn't comment and the first user comments again. Other sites allow those two comments to be stand alone posts.

Does this posts merging imply on your forum? Why do you implement it on your forum?
 
These feature is pretty common on most forums, especially in paid to post forums. I guess it is also another way to prevent misuse or cheating the system.
 
Yeah a lot of forums i work with do this. I don't fancy it. I think they need to stop doing this even on this forum
It auto mergers duplicate posts that are posted seconds after each other as it creates extra database entries. It’s a good thing to keep the database usage low depending on the server size.
