Every business has it's peak and off season. People that sell food and food items struggle with sales within the first few days or weeks of the year. That's because potential patrons have ether stocked up during Christmas or new year celebrations or most patrons have traveled.

it does but at a very minimal level because people still do buy foodstuff but not as during the festive period

Here, the price is still going up. In my locality, people will still celebrate till the end of January. It around February that the price is likely to drop. In January, there is traditional wedding, burial, house opening and dedication etc
