Does having light conversations with customers turn them to repeat customers?

I have observed that the customers that come to my shop, and I engage them on light conversations always come back. The conversations are about general life issues. They spend longer time in the shop and always come back to patronize.
 
Yes having some conversation with a client to the point where they feel comfortable can definitely make them return, especially if you gave them a quality service.
 
When you are so business conscious that you just want to sell, customers would not have the connection with you to make them come back to buy from you. Having light conversations help to build connections with customers.
