A Nigerian mum was taken aback when she attended an award/prize giving day in a school recently and a plaque was given to one of the students for being the ‘’Tallest female student'' in her class.

Bewildered by the category for the Award, the woman made a video to vent while questioning the reason for such an award.

‘’Does this award make sense? Excellence award, rewarding the tallest in a class! Does it even make sense? Who are the regulators of the Education system in Nigeria? I think you have to start probing all these educational awards that private schools are releasing because I do not understand what is going on.

What's your thoughts on this?

If it's a school, the awards given needs to be based on educational grades and notting else. Unfortunately the Nigerian school system has come up with even award for most handsome and so on in school.

It’s true that some awards in schools can seem strange, especially if they’re not related to effort or academic achievement. But it’s also important to understand the school’s intentions—perhaps they wanted to celebrate the diversity of students in a unique way.

However, it’s best to focus on aspects that build students, such as hard work, good character, or creativity. This helps children understand the value of effort and dedication in life.

By talking openly with teachers or schools about the types of awards, we can help improve the motivation system for students.
