Does welding business truly have adverse effect on the eyes?

I grew up to hear that welding business always affects the eyes at old age. That's because welders are exposed to long hours of sparks of lights everyday in their job.

Is it really true that people that go into welding run a risk of having problems with their eyes as they age?

Even though the few old time welders that I know have problems with their eyes, but I think modern welders have found a way to protect their eyes.

Yes prolonged exposure to the light from welding without proper protection usually has a negative effect on the eyes

I know that welding vocation poses some risks to the eyes. There are protective glasses though. Original ones would protect your eyes.

Yes I think it does because I can remember seeing these welders always wearing big Googles almost all the time when working

Welders in my place aren't allowed to weld without eye protection. It's delicate for them to weld eyes wide open that could capture sparks.
