The Enugu State Government has received ₦1.27 billion recovered by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) from Sujimoto Luxury Construction Limited. This money is part of funds paid for a school building project that was not completed.
In July 2024, the state awarded Sujimoto a contract worth about ₦11.4 billion to build 22 Smart Green Schools across Enugu.
The government paid the company around ₦5.76 billion upfront, half the total cost to help speed up the work. The deal required the schools to be ready within six months but checks by state officials and EFCC teams in May 2025 showed no progress on the sites as most were stuck at the foundation stage or just starting block work.
The government said the company used poor methods, hired unskilled workers, and stopped showing up. They accused the firm's CEO, Olasijibomi Ogundele (known as Sujimoto), of taking the money and disappearing.
The state petitioned the EFCC, and EFCC froze related bank accounts, seized Ogundele's passport, declared him wanted for alleged diversion of funds and money laundering, and got a court order to hold him during the probe.
