An Egyptian tennis player, once considered one of the weakest players in the history of the sport, is accused of cheating her way into the tournament. The 21-year-old reportedly disappeared after a 37-minute video of her 6-0, 6-0 set defeat to 24-year-old Lorna Scheddle went viral. The match was held on January 6 at the International Tennis Federation tournament in Nairobi, Kenya.
Fans on social media were furious after Elkigirido appeared to be completely unable to hit the basic shots. On one serve, she threw the ball behind her instead of towards her opponent, who is ranked 1,139th in the world. The Egyptian wildcard double-faulted 20 times on serve and hit just 8 percent of her serves.
The incident has raised questions about the legitimacy of her participation and has left many fans wondering how she managed to enter the international tournament.
