Electricity Generation Corp. Connects New 50MW Solar Plant to Grid
Malawi's power supply received a major boost on December 26 as the Electricity Generation Corporation(EGENCO) synchronized the new Golomoti II Solar Photovoltaic Plant to the national grid. The 50-megawatt plant, developed with independent power producer Phanes Group, is now supplying power, helping to reduce the current load-shedding schedule by an estimated two hours per day. Energy Minister Ibrahim Matola emphasized that this is the first of five similar solar projects slated for completion by mid-2026, which are critical for diversifying away from hydropower dependency.
