According to the report, the European Union on Saturday urged all parties to exercise minimums restraint, protect civilians, and fully respect international law after the United States and the Israel launched an attack on Iran, affirming its commitment to regional security and stability.

The report said that in a joint statement shared on US social media platform X, European Council President Antonio Costa and European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen said the situation in Iran is greatly concerning, noting that the EU remains in close contact with partners across the region.

The leaders said, stressing that ensuring nuclear safety and preventing actions that could further escalate tensions or undermine the global non-proliferation regime are of "critical importance. They reaffirm our steadfast commitment to safeguarding regional security and stability.

The statement noted that the EU has adopted extensive sanctions in response to the actions of Iran’s murderous regime and the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps, while consistently promoting diplomatic efforts to address Tehran's nuclear and ballistic programs through a negotiated solution.

The report said that Costa and von der Leyen also underscored that, in close coordination with EU member states, all necessary steps will be taken to ensure EU citizens in the region can rely on full support.

The report added that Israel and the US launched an attack against Iran early Saturday citing alleged threats posed by the Iranian regime. Video statements were released by both US President Donald Trump and Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu that also hinted at efforts to change the government in Tehran.

Additionally, the attacks came as talks between Washington and Tehran over Iran’s nuclear program had been ongoing under Oman’s mediation. A new round of talks in Geneva ended on Thursday. Omani Foreign Minister Badr Albusaidi, after a meeting with US Vice President JD Vance on Friday, said peace is within our reach. It also said that Israel also initiated a 12-day war on Iran last June, with the US joining later and bombing three Iranian nuclear sites.
