Some people think that entrepreneurs just have to sell products and services. It goes beyond that. Following political developments is part of the things that an entrepreneur must seriously do.

That would help the business person to stay aware of legislations that might affect the business and adjust.

Politics and governments provide the framework for businesses to exist and run. Politics is as important to the business person as the business he is running.

In my country, no one can operate a business according to what person wants. Everyone engaging with offline business must comply the requirements of the laws like applying for a business permit, submitting a blue print if build a business center building, pay taxes and pay the SSS contributions for the workers.

Having an idea of what goes on in the political world can also have an effect on the business in general. It also helps the business owner make proper decisions that would benefit the business politically.

If we only run a small/medium business we don't need to bother thinking about political developments, unless your business is related to USD then you need to monitor the exchange rate. If you run a big business you only need to approach high officials or rulers so that you will get opportunities for business development, so politics is not a priority.

There might be regulations that affect even small businesses. Small businesses can bid for government contracts. Or can't they?

The only participation of the small business owners is to pay the business permits and taxes. Those big time businesses operators are the ones closely monitored by the local or national government. It must be assured that the businessmen are not evading taxes. They are also the targets of the politics to accept solicitation.

I have noticed that people who are politically well connected are getting government jobs in the internet sector here, while migrants and others who are not politically well connected are cheated, exploited.

Whether you are operating a small business, or a big business, one government policy can drive you out of business completely. That is why you have to keep following what is happening in politics and governance as a business person.

You are absolutely right! Politics controls everything. In fact, to be ahead in business involves knowing what other don't know.
