There are families that have had a lasting business relationship together that have spanned decades. They often have positive and mutually beneficial business relationships.

As a protege with a separate identity, is it ideal to ditch such family ties and create your identity when you take over the business?

If these ties do not go in line with the vision you have for the business, or if you no longer have use for them, then it's better to replace them.
That's just true. Weigh the business relationship. Is it helping the business? If it is not, scatter it. Some of those relationships are meant for just self esteem.

It depends. If you get along with your family and all of you are capable of resolving conflicts and dosagrements in a proffesional manner then go for it. Also take into account vision. If it aligns then that is the cherry on top. But if everything I have mentioned, non of them resemble your family then best youbseparate yourself from the family to avoid the looming disapointments that await you.
