Final-year student of Akwa Ibom State Polytechnic, Ikot Osurua, Nigeria slumped and died

final-year student of Akwa Ibom State Polytechnic, Ikot Osurua, in Ikot Ekpene Local Government Area of Akwa Ibom State identified as John Akpan, slumped and d!ed during Karate training.

A source close to the Polytechnic community said that the Higher National Diploma programme student in the department of Media Studies of the institution left the students’ lodge off campus for Karate training on Saturday, April 12, 2025.
According to the source, immediately when he entered the pitch, he fainted and was rushed to a private hospital in Ikot Ekpene where he was referred to General Hospital, Ikot Ekpene. but he passed away immediately he got to the public hospital




The president of the Journalism and Media Studies Students Association, Mr Nsoefen Mark Akpan, who witnessed the incident, said the doctor at the hospital after a close examination, pronounced the deceased dead on arrival at the hospital.

His cause of death could be anything, it could be due to unhealthy eating habits or simply overstressing the body and so on.

He should not have joined the karate team training. His opponent might have overdone his part. What a pity to the victim. May he rest in peace

Maybe he suffered heart attack or cardiac arrest. Of recent, i have been hearing of people slumping and before you know it, it is death. This is the reason life is highly unpredictable.
