A Florida sheriff's deputy has successfully captured a large, escaped emu and brought it safely home. The incident occurred in a rural area west of St. Augustine, after the flightless bird was reported to have gotten loose.
Authorities said the deputy attempted to subdue the emu, but the bird stampeded several times with its large talons and fled. After a brief chase, the deputy cornered the emu and subdued it with a lanyard, then handcuffed its legs to prevent its claws from escaping.
The emu was returned to its owner unharmed, and no charges were filed.
