According to the report, Florida-based Wrap Technologies has achieved a world first: conducting a non-lethal human takedown using a drone platform in a series of trials. At the center of the demonstration was the Merlin-Interdictor drone, which deployed a BolaWrap device that entangled a human target from the air.
The report stated that engagement was repeated several times, confirming the drone’s ability to subdue hostile individuals safely and consistently.
Wrap Technologies Chief Commercial Officer Branden Frame said that Wrap Technologies conducted the trials in partnership with Mithril Defense. He said that this testing validates our vision for what a responsible, non-lethal aerial response and interdiction should look like.
Wrap Technologies' Chief Officer added that they believe drone-first-responder interdiction is more than innovation. He said that it’s a new capability for agencies, officers, and stakeholders to deliver faster, safer, and smarter intervention when lives are on the line.
The report said that Merlin-Interdictor is envisioned for use in school safety and public security scenarios, designed to intercept armed suspects while minimizing collateral damage.
Wrap Technologies President Jared Novick said the platform reflects their commitment to responsible innovation, opening new revenue channels and reinforcing Wrap’s leadership in public safety and emerging defense markets.
Additionally, Mithril Defense Co-Founders Justin Marston and Bill King said the successful trial was a meaningful development in their broader mission to deploy cutting-edge technologies to support first responders and save lives in active shooter situations. Pre-orders for the Merlin-Interdictor are expected to open next month, alongside training packages for government agencies and technology partners.
