Bob Simpson, the former coach and Test captain of Australia, passed away at the age of 89. Between 1957 and 1978, Simpson played 62 Test matches for Australia, amassing 4,869 runs at an average of 46.81, including 10 hundreds.

Known for being one of the best slip fielders in the game, he also claimed 71 wickets with his leg spin.

After a number of Australian players joined the breakaway World Series Cricket league, Simpson, who had first retired from playing in 1968, made an incredible return as Test captain in 1978 at the age of 41.
