According to the latest report, Israel and Hamas have reached a deal for a ceasefire and the release of hostages in Gaza, a US official confirmed Wednesday, in the final days of President Joe Biden's administration.
The report said that the deal, which was earlier announced by a source briefed on talks in Qatar, comes after Biden had pushed strongly for an accord before Donald Trump returned to the White House on January 20.
The report also said that the implementation of the deal is likely to start on January 19. Hamas is expected to release 33 hostages during the first phase of an emerging deal. Hundreds of Palestinian prisoners are set to be released from Israeli jails at the same time.
