Some business people say that a social media page is enough to give a business online presence. Others say that a dedicated website is the standard for online presence.

When is it okay to just have a social media page for online presence and when does a website become a necessity for online presence?

The decision between having just a social media page or your own website depends largely on the type of business and its objectives. For small, local businesses or those offering services that are easy to promote, a social media page may be sufficient, as it is more economical and easier to manage. However, when the business grows and needs greater credibility, complete control over its content, or a platform to sell directly, a website becomes essential. Furthermore, a website offers greater professionalism and builds trust with customers, in addition to allowing for a personalized user experience and search engine optimization. In short, if the business requires greater independence, greater brand control, or online sales, investing in a website is the best option. But for startups or very small businesses, social media can be a good starting point.

A small business might not be able to afford a website. A social media page serves just okay for online presence.
