Grandmother, the first to receive a combined pig kidney and mechanical heart pump transplant has died

Lisa Pisano , the grandmother who was the first to receive a combined pig kidney and mechanical heart pump transplant has died. This happened three months after the innovative pair of surgeries.

She had successfully had both surgeries in April and appeared to be recovering, but her health deteriorated and she died on Sunday, July 7.

While still alive the doctors had to remove the pig kidney 47 days after the procedures since the heart medications damaged the organ.
She was placed back on dialysis and continued to use the heart pump, but eventually went into hospice care, and didn't make it alive

Lisa Pisano's story is very sad. She tried the very first pig kidney procedure with a mechanical heart pump. At first, she seemed to recover, but after 47 days, the kidney had to be removed because the heart drugs damaged it. She went back to dialysis and continued to use the pump, but her health continued to drop and she entered hospice care and eventually died. It's like a crow screaming in the night. Life can change suddenly.

Yeah it was unfortunate that the procedure didn't work a long time for her. Hopefully she is in a better place now

I guess there is still a long way to go before they can find a more better solution for this kind of issue. May her soul rest in peace.
