Greater wealth, less compassion?

Do you think that a person's compassion, particularly for the poor, might be affected by riches? Probably not, in my opinion. Compassion is a two-way street; the rich and the poor can both exhibit compassion, perhaps in different ways. You might not be as compassionate if you didn't feel a great deal of compassion as a child because compassion is partially a learned behavior. Most people pick up compassion by witnessing the interactions of others in their environment as they grow up. Fortunately, developing greater compassion is something you can do at any age.

That could happen because there are individual differences. If the environment is hostile, the kids can inherit the scene of brutality as they grow ignoring compassion that could be part of their wealth building and acquring.

For me I believe it's not about the wealth but the person in general. A person who genuinely have compassion, will exhibit it even when they have money or not.

Compassion is a human trait. It can come naturally or can be acquired. The degree of compassion might vary from person to person. People growing up in a compassionate environment tend to acquire it as part of growing up with compassionate individuals around them. I don't think that it has to do anything with your economic strata .

It is hard to argue with the statement that children can be naturally compassionate. However, this innate quality can be easily extinguished, especially when they observe their parents or other influential figures in their lives not showing kindness towards others.

Bad people are bad whether with money or not. Having money doesn't change anyone it is just who that person is and that's it.

True. Being compassionate is not easy to do, especially in a toxic environment, and you may lose compassion in the long run if you are in that kind of environment.

Very true, a person who is naturally compassionate will always look for ways to show this even when there is no wealth.

That's my point exactly, you don't go for help from a person simply because the person is rich but for one that can show compassion to help out.

I know that some wealthy people always become arrogant. It is truly when a person is financially elevated that you see his true character.

I believe so too. But the thing is that money makes the real personality of a person to show. Most people that seem to lose compassion after being wealthy never had compassion before.
