Hackers controlling keyboard remotely

Some hackers are controlling the keyboard of a laptop remotely during the day and not allowing the user to type, even if it is not connected to the internet. How are these hackers controlling the keyboard and how to stop the hacking?

I have not experienced such a thing before and I hope I do not get to experience it in the future. Maybe they have hacked the system which is why they can control the keyboard. I am not sure, though.
